The story of Dying Light 2 was subconsciously influenced by the global pandemic
When the global pandemic closed at the beginning of 2020, everything stopped — at least for a bit. At this time, Dying Light 2 was a game that has been shifted to survival against all adversities ever shifted. But then, when Covid-19 had arrived, Tech land was forced to work from home — what the development team again burdened. While the game suffered additional delays, the pandemic caused a wave effect that changed the approach of Tech land to the game and its narrative for better.
Talking to The PC Player 24, Tyson Smetana, Senior Game Designer at Tech land, talked about how the transition to work from home and the global pandemic have helped to merge the story of Dying Light 2 after years of work and development.
I think very subconsciously, it [COVID-19] has influenced many of our decisions, says Smetana. When he relates to the opening film of the game, which shows how civilization is vaccinated to ward off a virus in the world of the game, Smetana says: It all feels a little surreal. In his words, the topics of Dying Light 2 may have become more important due to what happens around us.

During the discussion, Smetana also mentioned that the game has come together in the last year or so really, and he believes that part of it could be at work from home during the COVID-19 pandemic.By working from home, you listen to be distracted from everything in the world, because we all were locked up in our own home office... and so we can focus on what we do in our job. As all of them focused on bringing the game to the latest, the story of the game is now adapted to the Open World systems and activities, something we felt when we have a few hours of the game in our dying light 2 previews played.
However, this shift to work from home was not very positive after Tons experience. You can not have [Collaborative Creative Experiences] If the only creature you can motivate your cat is. Of course, you have Zoom, but it s not the same.
What I like most of Tech land, what I m the most proud of is, if I think about how closely we are as a team, how well we work together as a human being sitting next to each other. So a person has an idea, she says basically only loud. And there are five people around him, who say, well, that s a great idea, let us do that, let us try. And it really motivates you.
These moments went to Tyson lost when he worked out at home, which was the impact on what he calls the exchange of ideas. But over time, Tech land began to pull on a strand and learn to work from home, which led to the development of the game before the start date in February.
